It was Hwy 36 Auto and Diesel night at I-35 Speedway as 96 cars checked in to provide the fans with the best racing action possible. The Pure Stocks were racing for added money in the annual Mike Knight Memorial race where everyone honors one of the best track prep gurus. In the end one driver walked away with the $700 win and the seven-and-a-half-foot tall trophy.
We started off in the E-Mods where Adam Dunwoodie visited McCarthy Autogroup Victory Lane for the ninth time in 2023. The win didn’t come easy as Dunwoodie had some challengers trying to take the win away. Casey Burnett would race his way to second with Tony Layne right behind him in third as they battled behind Dunwoodie. Aaron Jones made his return tonight with a solid run in fourth after a battle with fifth place finisher Derrick Mahoney who also returned tonight.
The E-Mods set the bar high, but the Pure Stocks were racing for extra money and the huge trophy said “Watch my beverage” as they put on a heck of a show for the fans in memory of Mike Knight. Jacob Starmer got the win, but he had his hands full with his brother Tyler Starmer and Jakub Hisel for much of the race. Second place finisher Tyler Starmer led a majority of the twenty-lap event until Jacob Starmer snagged the lead on lap thirteen. Tyler battled back the final few laps but to no avail. Points leader Jeffrey Sears battled his way to finish third. Jakub Hisel hung his 27 machine on the very top of the track as he battled the Starmers for the lead until the nose exploded on the front of the car which hurt the handling of the car as he still finished a respectable fourth and defending track champion Ava Dixon fought her way up to finish fifth.
Tommy Cordray picked up his second win of the season in the Midwest Limited Late Models. Points leader Houston Johnson finished a close second with Michael King having mechanical issues finished third.
Lonnie Farley picked up his first feature win of the season in the Open Vintage class as he bested a couple of two-time feature winners in second place finisher Mike Lefholz and third place finisher Ron Lefholz.
Tyler Cadwallader picked up his fifth feature win of the season at I-35 Speedway in the USRA B-Mods. At first Cadwallader pulled away, then the points leader and last week’s winner Corey Myers started to reel him in but ran out of laps finishing second. Chris Wright three wheeled his 66x machine to a third-place finish with early challenger Tyler O’Neal in fourth and Doug Heimbaugh finished fifth and his first appearance at I-35 Speedway.
The Medieval USRA Stock Car feature didn’t start off very well for Nic Hanes as going in to turn 3 he made it three wide and spun. Hanes had to restart in the rear then proceeded to come back to the front. Points leader Jeff Dixon led a majority of the feature as he battled side by side with Dalton Swalley and Doug Keller. Dixon would lead lap after lap before Hanes found himself side by side coming off turn four on the last lap and Hanes would beat Dixon to the line by .025 according to the transponders. Dixon would finish second, Doug Keller third, Anthony Robertson would race his way up to finish fourth and Tony Manley ran a good clean race as he finished fifth.
Points leader Tyler Hibner became the first driver to reach double digit wins as captured his tenth USRA Modified feature win of the season. Steven Glenn made it close a few times as he finished second, Lee Hibner was third, with Chad Lyle fourth and Houston Johnson fifth.
Harold Robb Jr picked up his second win in a row as he outpaced points leader Brad Mick. Mick finished second, Jonnathon Hartman, who looks to be close to getting his first win finished third followed by nice runs by Aaron Burrell in fourth and Austin Ziegler in fifth.
Brycen Bouzek picked up his sixth win of the season in the Jr Sport Compacts. Emma Mather had her best run as she finished second, points leader Payton Hanes was third, Maddy Barr fourth and Katelynn Fleming fifth.
Congratulations to our fan of the week Bret Butterfield sponsored by Hibner Racing, Darla Dixon, Kever Racing, JDB Racing Videography and Design and Bud Wilson Family Racing.
Join us next week for Seeburg Muffler Night with The USAC Midwest Wingless Sprint Association invading I-35 Speedway.
