Schafman, Heeter and Bryant Win Smokin’ Hot Summer Series Championships on Generational Buildings Night at the Races

(WINSTON, Mo.) – A big field of USRA Modifieds rolled into I-35 Speedway on the finale of the Rick Beebe Heating and Air Conditioning Smokin’ Hot Summer Series presented by Prime Racing Products. Mark Schafman had a healthy buffer and after a top five finish he clinched the championship and $2,500 payday. In the race itself, Gunner Martin, Dennis Elliott, Darren Shaw and Zach Sanders put on a stellar battle. Sanders held the point early while pounding the cushion. Elliott found speed in the middle of the track, while Gunner Martin rolled the bottom. At the mid-point of the race, every lap saw a lead change. Eventually Martin prevailed with the lead and then Sanders had mechanical trouble, bringing out a late race yellow. On the restart, Martin drove away from the field and picked up the win on his way to a runner up finish in the Smokin’ Hot Summer Series. Elliott finished second, Shaw third, Houston Johnson fourth and Schafman fifth. Nathan Vaughn finished on the final spot on the podium in the Smokin’ Hot Summer Series. Doug Keller finished fourth in series points and Manlee Lamar fifth.

A stout field of 25 USRA B-Modifieds rushed into turn one and Andy Bryant took the lead off turn two. The rest of the B-Mod field never saw him again as Bryant cruised to victory. The victory also clinched Bryant’s quest to the Smokin’ Hot Summer Series Championship. Brad Smith finished the race second, while also claiming second in the series. Ethan Isaacs, Doug Keller and Luke Nieman rounded out the top five. Chase Galvan finished seventh and Patrick Royalty finished eighth which left them tied for the final sport on the podium in Smokin’ Hot Summer Series points. Royalty claimed the position on the tie break. Doug Keller rounded out the top five in points.

The USRA Stock Car battle between Brett Heeter and Kevin Anderson for the Smokin’ Hot Summer Series Championship saw another classic as Heeter and Anderson were the two racing for the checkered flag. Heeter, using his classic high side lane bested Anderson on this night and claimed the series championship. Anderson finished second, while also earning the runner-up spot in points. Jeff Dixon finished third, Keith Simmons fourth and Steve Herrick fifth. After a tough night, Cletus Murray earned third in series points and Tom Fogarty finished the five week journey fourth.

The ULMA Late Models also headlined the night at I-35 Speedway. The gap between Aaron Marrant and Todd Shute for the lead never went beyond about five car lengths but with four to go Shute fell off the pace, allowing for Marrant to cruise to McCarthy Auto Group Winner’s Circle. Tommy Cordray finished second, Matthew Lance third, Walt Imhoff fourth and Todd Shute fifth.

The E-Modifieds saw a winning driver finally break into I-35 Speedway victory lane. Ben Stockton dominated the feature and other than a late race restart had nothing to worry him. Charlie Browne finished second, Bobby Lopez third, Leroy Morrison fourth and Anthony Hill fifth.

The Pure Stocks also saw a new winner to winner’s circle as Justin Adkins raced his way to the victory. Ron Hill finished second, Brad Sheetz third, Cody King fourth and Rylee Fuller fifth.

The Sport Compacts leaders played some bumper tag before John Willard picked up his sixth win of the season. David Miller III finished second, Dave Petty Jr. third, Steven Bunton fourth and Jason Teel fifth.

The Grand Nationals saw this round of the season long bout between Houston Johnson and Chad Fuller go to Fuller. Johnson finished second, John Hanson finished third, Billie Hoover fourth and Chris Kline fifth.
