I-35 Speedway Recap 3-28-26

March 28, 2026

WINSTON, Mo. (March 28, 2026)—Bonnet Trailer Sales and Service Night at the Races has come and gone, and with two events now in the books, we’re already over 5% through our season! Last night was weekly racing, including an early season debut of the Late Models, bringing our car count to 63 on the evening.

It was a case of the usual suspects at the front of the Team Spray Foam E-Mod field, as defending track champion Tony Layne held off our inaugural 2026 feature winner, Chris Dishong. Garrett Stonum would come home third, followed by Blake Hayes in fourth and James Silkwood rounding out the top five.

Turn 1 official Kenny Green had the best seat in the house, as both of his Late Models piloted by Houston Johnson and Adam Dunwoodie ripped around the track. Houston started on the pole while Dunwoodie began in fifth, where the 24D started its march to the front. Dunwoodie eventually caught Houston but was unable to get by him as Johnson picked up his first Late Model win this season, and seventh since last year. Following Dunwoodie in third was Mike Collins, then Michael King in fourth, and Tommy Cordray in fifth.

In the USRA Tuner class, the field roared like thunder, and much like a storm came a few seconds after lightning, as Samuel Moore won his first feature of the season in his McQueen inspired compact. Hunter Throckmorton would finish in second, followed by heat race winner Dan Canady in fourth and JR Curtis in fifth.

Two long haul drivers battled it out in the USRA Hobby Stock class, as Derek Lampe from Springfield, Missouri and Gavin Bartel from Kasson, Minnesota went down to the wire. Bartel just could never find a way around Lampe, as the #174 wins his first feature on the season. Bartel, our feature winner week 1 in 2026, exits the weekend as our points leader. Last years track champion Shaun Wirtz comes home third, followed by Tyler Brown in fourth and Jason Teel in fifth.

Cole Hamilton used his pole position to pull away and could not be caught in the B-Mods feature for his first win of the season. Daniel Harris tried to run him down but would finish in second.  Adam Dunwoodie would come home third, followed by Nathan Hampton in fourth and Jett Larson in fifth.

Chris Dishong came up one spot short in the E-Mods but held off a field of fast cars for his first feature win this season in the USRA Stock Cars. Brad Derry was hooked on his bumper, but unable to find a way around, leaving him to finish second. Jeffrey Sears followed in third, with Corey Myers riding the high side home to fourth, and Brader Brauer making a long haul to finish fifth.

Houston Johnson goes back-to-back to begin the USRA Modified season here at I-35 Speedway. It looked like it would be tough to do in the heat race, with the 22C of Cole Campbell putting down some blistering fast laps on his way to the Molle checkered flag, but he could not keep up with the #97 Molle Machine in the feature. Campbell would finish second, followed by Richard Layne on third, Terry Van Trump fourth, and Tyler O’Neal in fifth.

The Beginner Tuners were our final race of the night, as Makayla Myers would win. Cooper Canady would finish second, followed by pole sitter Layla Hampton in third, and Gracie Edwards in fourth.

Thank you to all drivers, crews, sponsors, and fans for all you all do to make this possible every week. We are very thankful to have another safe week of racing under wraps, and we’ll see you all next Saturday night!
