Our first weekend of racing in August brought 90 cars across 8 classes that all brought some excitement to the I-35 Speedway this past Saturday night. Tonight was Triple Cross Trucking Night at the races, and the grandstands were packed on a perfect night for racing. Before the action got started, we had special guest Troy Strawhecker sing a live national anthem. We also continued our summer autograph sessions with the drivers, as 2nd place in points in every class signed autographs during intermission for lots of race fans.
Moving into on-track action, Tony Layne ran away with tonight's E-Modified feature race, Layne’s 7th feature win this season, but his first feature win since May 24th. Coleman Browning was able to catch Layne but ultimately couldn’t find a way around him and would finish 2nd. Nathan Hampton was fast all night and finished in 3rd, Aaron Jones 4th and Garrett Stonum rounded out the top 5.
Houston Johnson hopped in a Late Model for the first time this season and would take home the feature win. Paul Glendenning ran in 2nd, Tommy Cordray 3rd and Michael King finished in 4th.
Sport Compacts had a new face in victory lane, as Chris Lewis was able to use his front row starting position to get the lead early and drive away with the feature win. Brad Mick ran a close 2nd, Ryan Hinkle in 3rd, Samuel Moore in 4th and Alex Boyden in 5th.
Pure Stock feature race made it impossible to stay in your seat. Track points leader Shaun Wirtz would hold on to collect his 2nd feature win this season, his first win since March 29th and I-35 Speedway. But the 95s car driven by AJ Sayers did not make it easy on Wirtz. Sayers found speed on the high line and got some huge runs after a few restarts, but Wirtz would stay in front and Sayers finished a respectable 2nd. CJ Turner finished in 3rd, Calvin Teel 4th and Conrad Kaufman in 5th.
For the third week in a row, we watched Daniel Harris and Adam Dunwoodie go back and forth in the USRA B-Modifieds. After Harris had to end his race early last weekend, he was able to redeem himself tonight and pass Dunwoodie to collect the feature win, this was feature win number 4 for Harris this season. Dunwoodie led multiple laps but would finish in 2nd, Londen McClure passed multiple cars and would finish in 3rd, Derek Watson in 4th and Tyler O,Neal rounded out the top 5.
After a wild start to the USRA Stock Car feature race, Justin Custer would move up through the field and take home his first feature win of the season at I-35 Speedway. Jeff Dixon made some strong runs to the front and would finish in 2nd, Doug Keller 3rd, Clayton Brown in 4th and Gerald Wahwahsuck finished in 5th.
Houston Johnson doubled down tonight and took home the USRA Modified feature win, this was also win number 10 on the season for Johnson. Brad Johnson would finish in 2nd, Jory Stotts led some laps before finishing in 3rd, Andrew Thomas in 4th and Steven Glenn finished 5th.
Rylie Robb started up front and drove away with tonight's Jr. Sport Compact feature race, Robb’s 2nd feature win this season. Robert Miller finished in 2nd, Levi Morey in 3rd, Landen Lillie in 4th and Derek Johnson in 5th.
