I-35 Speedway Race Recap 5-10-25

May 11, 2025

Another night of action has come and gone at I-35 Speedway, and it was a fun one!

Pure Stocks started the feature action, with Conrad Kauffman pulling away from last year’s pure stock track champion Bubba Silkwood and the 55T of Mich Ross. Shaun Wirtz and Gavin Grier would round out the top 5.

There was not a dry eye in the house by the end of the Late Model feature, where Tommy Cordray held off Tyler Hibner lap after lap on his way to his first feature win of the year. Our congratulations to Cordray on the win and our condolences in the passing of his father.  His victory speech praising his Dad caused many a tear to be shed and he further thanked the owners of the track for keeping a place for the late models to race.

It was a wild day before Mother’s Day for the Moore family in the IMCA Sprint Cars. The brothers, a set of twins, had a pair of fast machines, but the 6 of Logan Moore would end the night upside down on the backstretch, while Laney Moore would pull away to win. Jake Greenwood would finish second, followed by JR Topper who recovered from a midrace spin, and Kenny Potter and Kendall Weymuth would round out the top 5.

After the first 7 features of the USRA B-Mods in 2025 we had seven different winners. Tyler O’Neal would attempt to be winner number eight, but could not hold off the 57C of Chad Clancy. Lonnie Hibner would ride the high side up to second, followed by Eddie Ingram, O’Neal, and Adam Dunwoodie.

The USRA Stock Cars had an extremely fast class, with several winners already this year and even more contenders. Tyler Cadwallader would hold on to win, making it two nights in a row after his Friday night win. Justin Custer, Doug Keller, and Todd Reitzler would follow Cadwallader on the bottom for most of the race, while Jeff Dixon would take the high road to finish fifth.

In the USRA Modifieds, Houston Johnson would hold off both Hibners, especially Lee after a several lap side-by-side battle for the lead after a midrace restart. Johnson held on to make it two wins in a row at I-35, with Tyler getting by Lee for second, then Brad Johnson and Jory Stotts following the Hibners to round out the top 5.

Grant Sheetz would start in the front row and pull out to an early lead, but the youngster would be reeled in by the veteran Brad Mick. This would be Brad Micks’ seventh straight win on the year in the compacts, picking right up where he left off last year. Mick would have nothing but positivity to say of Sheetz in his interview and was confident the 64 would beat him one night by the end of the year. He also let the cat out of the bag that he was building a pure stock and plans to pull double duty later this season. Following Sheetz home was David Miller, JR Curtis, and Tanner Burton to round out the top five.

Nathan Hampton started strong in the E-Mods, building a lead and holding off the hard chargers of Tony Layne and Chris Dishong. Restarts would give Dishong the chance he needed, he was able to get around both Layne and the leader Hampton. Clean air would mean smooth sailing for Chris Dishong, allowing him to pull away for his second E-Mod feature win of the year. Hampton, Layne, Garrett Stonum and Kenny Reed would round out the top five.

Athena Riley would win the final feature of the night in the Jr Sport Compacts. The Jr doesn’t mean this is just a class for kids, drivers of any age looking for track time and experience in your compacts, this is the class for you.

Finally, thank you to everyone who makes Saturday nights what they are. From drivers, officials, pit crews, sponsors, and of course the fans, we couldn’t do any of this without you. Full results and points posted to our Facebook and website, and we’ll see you all next Saturday night!
