5-3-25 Race Recap I-35 Speedway

May 3, 2025

WINSTON, Mo. (May 3, 2025)—Another great night of racing at I-35 Speedway is in the books. Tonight was Highway 36 Auto and Diesel night at the races which brought out over 85 total cars across 9 racing classes. It was a chilly night at the racetrack, but those warm summer nights are getting close. On the track, the action was top notch all night long.

In the Pure Stocks, Jakub Hisel and Mich Ross collected the heat race wins. Those two drivers made it impossible to stay in your seat during the feature race. After multiple lead swaps and running the entire back stretch with their front bumpers stuck together at one point of the race, Hisel came out on top to grab his 2nd feature win this season. Ross finished a very respectable 2nd, James Silkwood 3rd, CJ Turner 4th and AJ Sayers grabbed a top 5 finish.

Midwest Limited Late Models had Tyler Hibner grabbing an early lead and powering away to take home the feature win, Tommy Cordray would finish 2nd and Michael King 3rd.

The Vintage Open series had 2 cars check in at the racetrack tonight. Steve Tanner was the feature winner and Darrin Christy finished in 2nd. We hope to see more Vintage Open racers throughout the season, some of the most interesting race cars you will ever see come through this series.

In USRA B-Mods we had some drivers work their way through the field and made another exciting race to watch. Ethan Isaacs started inside of Row 4, but was one of the only drivers to make the outside groove work for himself, in the feature race, and was able to snag the feature win. Isaacs, using the outside lane, passed Corey Myers, who worked the bottom lane, in the closing laps to get the win. Myers would finish 2nd, Lonnie Hibner who started 8th finished in 3rd, Tim Eaton finished in 4th. And after starting 11th, Eddie Ingram drove his car up to finish 5th.

Another hard charger tonight was Austin Kaplan in the USRA Stock Cars. Kaplan started the feature 7th and navigated through the field to get the feature win. Matthew Lance led multiple laps before taking home 2nd, Mich Ross 3rd, Clayton Brown 4th and Chris Dishong in 5th.

USRA Modifieds had Houston Johnson going from 6th to the lead in the first 5 laps and never looking back. Johnson held off a few strong runs from Tyler Hibner, but Hibner couldn’t find a way around the 97 car of Johnson. Tyler Hibner took home 2nd, Lee Hibner recovered from an early race spin to finish 3rd, Brad Johnson 4th and Terry Vantrump 5th.

Brad Mick stays unbeaten in Sport Compact feature races in 2025. Mick had his hands full tonight with last year’s Jr. Sport Compact Champion Grant Sheetz and series veteran David Miller. Sheetz would finish in 2nd, Miller 3rd, JR Curtis 4th, and after starting 9th Tanner Burton finished in 5th.

E-Modifieds had Tony Layne using his front row starting spot to go back-to-back in feature race wins. Chris Dishong stayed right on Layne’s bumper the entire race but couldn’t find the lane to make the pass. Dishong finished 2nd, Coleman Browing started 8th and finished 3rd, Blake Hayes 4th and Nathan Hampton 5th.

The only thing better than back-to-back is 3 in a row. That’s what John Lucito Jr. accomplished in the Jr. Sport Compacts. After getting control early. Lucito Jr. held his lead to bring home the feature win. Athena Riley finished 2nd, Abby Lee 3rd and Misty Teel in 4th.
