I-35 Speedway Race Recap 8-24

I-35 Speedway, Winston Mo.

08-27-2022

By: Phillip Wilson, Track Announcer

One hundred eleven (111) cars checked in for the Nodaway Valley Bank Mike Knight Memorial at I-35 Speedway. Mother Nature tried to put a damper on things, but with the help of the drivers, the I-35 Speedway crew would not be denied. The final checkered flag flew around 10:10pm.

Starting off in the E-Mods tonight, points leader Casey Burnett would slip by last week’s winner Adam Dunwoodie to pick his track leading 14th win of the season. Dunwoodie would hold on for the second position. Andrew Thomas had his best run of 2023 finishing third, with good runs by Mark Anderson and Tiffany Cadwallader finishing fourth and fifth.

In Pure Stock action, Dale Eaton picked up his first feature win at I-35 Speedway in a while. Eaton lost the lead momentarily to Jakub Hisel but would slip back by on a restart and would pull away to pick up the feature win. Jon Boller Jr would race his way into a top 2 finish, finishing second. Jakub Hisel had a close finish at the line with Conrad Kauffman, with Hisel finishing third and Kauffman fourth. Points leader Ava Dixon finished fifth.

The Poweri Midwest Lightning Sprints returned to I-35 Speedway. Young up and comer Trice Roden would lead from the drop of the green flag holding off a defending series champion Stanley Kreisel, who finished second. He would be followed by Tyler Johnson, series points leader Chasity Younger and Mike Tindell to round out the top five.

In Midwest Limited Late Model action, Tommy Cordray used a restart to go from third to first to pick up his fifth feature win of the season. Houston Johnson would slip past points leader Ed Noll with a few laps remaining to finish second. Last week’s feature winner and current points leader Ed Noll finished third. Michael Dotson returned to pick up a fourth-place finish followed by Harold Robb Jr in fifth.

One week after barrel rolling his 69ER machine, USRA B-Mod points leader Tyler Cadwallader would work tirelessly through the week getting the car back together. Cadwallader would get past leader Michael Taylor III as the rear tire let go on the 6T machine and he had to hold off a hard charging Corey Myers to pick up his sixth win of the season. Myers late charge on the last lap fell short as he finished second. Clint Baker had his beat finish of the season finishing third, followed by returning driver Clay Hale in fourth and Jason Withrow with a good run in fifth.

The Mike Knight Memorial feature race was the USRA Stock Cars with $800 going to the winner as well as bonus spots throughout the field.  The winner also received a seven-foot trophy. Tommy Ground took the lead from the drop of the green and held off numerous challenges from points leader Nic Hanes early on. Hanes trying to fly around the top line slipped over the burm in turns three and four and lost momentum toward the end of the race. Jeff Dixon flexed his muscle with about 3 laps to go, slipping past Ground to pick up the win, the enormous trophy and an $800 payday. Tim Eaton had a late surge fall short as he finished second. Kristchon Hisel had a good run in the final two laps moving from sixth to finish third. Tommy Ground held tough with a top five finish, finishing fourth with Doug Keller in fifth.

Darren Shaw hasn’t raced often this season but when he does, he is a threat to win each time he pulls in to the pits. Shaw held off challenges from the father son duo of Lee Hibner and points leader Tyler Hibner to pick up his second win of 2022. Tyler would slip passed Lee late in the twenty-lap event to finish second. Lee would hold on to finish third, Houston Johnson has a great battle finishing fourth and Tyler Grooms continues his best season to date finishing fifth.

Isaiah Penton would visit McCarthy Autogroup Victory Lane for the twelfth time on the season in the Sport Compacts. Second place finisher Brad Mick, the current points leader kept tabs on Penton as they have a tight points battle going. Newcomer Christopher Buchanan got a top three finish placing third followed by Elijah Hoyt and Brad Alshire in the top five.

Congratulations to John Penlend winning fan of the week sponsored by Hibner Racing, Keller Racing, Dixon Racing and Silkwood Family Racing.

Join us next Saturday night for Larry McFee night as we will have our Stinky Feet Race (Shoes are required) as well as the Show-Me Vintage Racers return to the famed I-35 Speedway. The season continues to wind down as there’s still plenty of points battles to make the run to October an exciting one at I-35 Speedway, Dirt Trackin’ at it’s best!
