Dishong, Hoover, Bailey, Solander, Derry, Johnson and Schmidt fly McCarthy Autogroup checkers at I-35 Speedway!

As the season winds down at I-35 Speedway more new cars continue to check in to the pit area. This week 124 cars checked in for an exciting night of racing for the Larry McFee trucking “Be aware cancer rally” night.

Chris Dishong started the night off winning his 7th feature of the season in his Mike Lewis owned #54L E-Mod. Early on Dishong had a fierce battle with last week’s winner Darren Bennett and Reece Solander. Solander would pull off with mechanical issues, but Bennett continued to wage war with Dishong. After a couple of late restarts Dishong would pull away and pick up the wind. Bennett would hold on to finish second, current points leader Michael Taylor III driving Nic Hanes 9h machine would finish third, George Burnett finished fourth with an improving Andrew Thomas fifth.

For the first time this season Brandon Hoover came back to the track where he raced in his very first Pure Stock race, and that would prove to be a wise decision as he picked up his very first Pure Stock win of his career. Hoover held off furious challenges throughout the race. Conrad Kaufman finished second, Kenton Walston was third, Kristchon Hisel fourth and Ava Dixon got another top 5 finishing fifth.

Shayne Bailey started driving Michael Dotson’s Midwest Limited Late Model about a month ago and has had some success in the 55D hotrod. Saturday night Bailey achieved the ultimate success by picking up his first career win in the division. Bailey battled it out with Houston Johnson but pulled away in the end. Johnson would finish second, Jon Binning third, Paul Glendenning fourth and points leader Kerry Davis fifth.

Reece Solander won his 4th USRA B-Mod feature in his 5th start of the season at I-35 Speedway. Solander and 7-time winner Shadren Turner waged war as they got into heavy lap traffic toward the end of the 15 lap event. A late caution would give Solander the clean race track he needed to pull away to secure the win. Turner would finish second, points leader Tyler Cadwallader ran with the top 2 for most of the race finished third, Cole Moore was fourth and Corey Myers fifth.

Brad Derry led every lap of the USRA Stock Car feature picking up the win. It wasn’t easy as he had to hold off defending track champion Doug Keller, Nic Hanes, Ed Griggs and Thomas Roberts who all finished in the top 5. Derry won in only his second trip to the famed track this season.

USRA Modified points leader Houston Johnson picked up his ninth feature win of the season to go with three in his Midwest Limited Late Model. Johnson got by leader Daniel Harris who developed mechanical issues halfway through the 20-lap feature. Johnson then must hold off the 2020 track champion Tyler Hibner for the win. Ed Noll finishing the season in Shayne Bailey’s #7 car finished second, Tyler Grooms with a good run in third, Tyler Hibner rebounded from a last lap spin to finish fourth and Eric Johnson finished fifth.

Devin Schmidt picked up his first Sport Compact feature win of the season at I-35 Speedway Saturday night. Schmidt was in the right place at the right time and cruise to victory. Harold Robb Sr finished second in a photo finish over Keegan Russell, who finished third. Chris Nichols was fourth and Mikel Solberg was fifth.
