“Racin for Rian” this Saturday, June 29, 2019 at I-35 Speedway. This is an opportunity for the racing community to give back to a program which touched the lives of Bud and Amanda Wilson. In 2010, baby Rian was born 4 months early and she lived for 30 hours. The Wilson family did not realize Saint Luke’s Hospital had a family fund. This fund controlled by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provided a package of their lost daughter. Instead of bringing home a baby they brought home a package which included a lock of her hair, pictures of her in a dress which are donated by one of the nurses, and other items. This touched their hearts to the point they went to I-35 Speedway owners, Mike and Kyle Johnson, and asked to create a race in honor of their daughter. That race is the 8th Annual “Racin for Rian”.
Mother Nature interrupted the Gary Davis Super 66 Stock Car Special this past Saturday. The new date for this super awesome Stock Car race is July 13, 2019. If you purchased a wrist band for the Gary Davis race either as a pit pass or general admission, they can be used this next week or hold on to them and use them on July 13. Several of our Stock Car teams in attendance were from out of town so we realize they cannot use their wrist bands until they return for the race on July 13.
I-35 Speedway is located at exit 64 off Interstate 35. Make plans now to assist the racing community in supporting our local community. Gates open at 4:30 P.M., hot laps at 6:15 P.M., and racing begins at 7:00 P.M. Adults are $15, Seniors (62 and over) $12, age 18 and younger are FREE.
The Wilson’s have collected and donated over $20,000 to the Saint Luke’s Foundation Intensive Care Nursery fund since starting this event. They gain this money through sponsorships, through t-shirts sales, and through the drivers doing a collection in the grandstands. Racin’ for Rian shirts are currently on sale please contact Paula Wilson Murphy at 660-635-0639 or Kyle Johnson at 816-365-7593. As a race fan purchasing a shirt is helping with this event.
Lot of races and lots of fun this Saturday. Concessions located throughout the racing facility. Where else would you be on Saturday Night. Make your plans to be at I-35 Speedway and be a part of the racing community helping out another part of our society!
