Starting an unforgettable night of racing at I-35 Speedway were the always competitive Grand Nationals racing their make-up feature from 6/17/2017. Ron Miller #98 would jump to the early lead and hold off the challenges of Chad Fuller #0R to midway of the feature. As the race progressed Donnie Brown #26, who would start in the rear of the field, would work his way through traffic and take the lead. Brown would not be denied and pick up the feature win on this night of competition. Miller would race home second with Fuller third place. Fourth would go to the always competitive Billie Hoover #96J with Anthony Logston #6 a close fifth on the night. Heat race winner was Marty Powell #9P whom would develop mechanical issues and drop from competition.
Next would see the USRA B-Modifieds make-up their feature from 6/17/2017 with a loaded field of competitors. Shadren Turner #17T would lead them to the green and never waiver leading most of the feature laps and stand tall in McCarty Auto Group Winners Circle getting his first win of 2017 at I-35 Speedway. Heat race winner Ed Noll #15 would try Turner both high and low but be forced to settle for second on this night with fellow heat race winner Doug Keller #7 a very close third. Eddie Schwope Jr #91 would race his way to fourth with other heat race winner Randy Ainsworth #57 ending the night fifth place.
Pure Stock would roar to the track and see Jon Boller Jr #20X make it two wins in a row starting 10th on the field and racing his way to first. Boller would hold off the hard challenge of Kerry Ayers #99A who would place a solid second and heat race winner Cletus Murray #21M who slipped in turn number four and recovered for a third place finish. Other heat race winner C J Turner #91 would end the feature event fourth holding Colten Ishmael #17i to place fifth.
Show Me Vintage Racers would again visit I-35 Speedway and see Leroy Holler #29 work his magic passing heat race winner Darren Shaw #30 to pick up the feature win. Shaw would place second with the #6 of Damon Clevenger a close third. Mickey Fleethart #1 would take the fourth spot holding Dave Baldwin #4 to end the feature fifth.
E-Modified would see side by side racing from start to finish with a familiar face from years gone by in McCarthy Auto Group Winners Circle. After a couple cautions Randy smith Jr #75X would take the lead and set a blistering pace on the field. Derek Carney #05 would find the fast way around the track and chase down Smith with Jason Nelson #12GA close on his bumper. As the race progressed, heat winner J J Baumli #46 would find the high line and move from a ninth starting position to contend for the front. Baumli would pass both Carney and Smith in the closing laps claiming the win and celebrating in victory lane. Smith would place second with Carney a very close third. Other heat winner Chris Mercer #13 would charge back to the front after a racing mishap would send him to the rear with Jason Nelson #12GA an impressive fifth place showing. Other heat race winner was Carson Masoner #20X.
Grand National would take to the fast speedway for their second feature of the night. Travis Walker #71 would win his hat and the feature on this night of competition leading every lap of both. Donnie Brown #26 would come from a 9th place starting position to challenge Walker but have to settle for second. Billie Hoover #97 would finish third as other heat race winner Chad Fuller #0R placing fourth with John Brown #36J fifth.
USRA B-Modified would see some of the best racing of the night as heat winner Eddie Schwope Jr #91 would set the pace early. Schwope would use the low line on the track and hold off challenges by Shadren Turner #17T, Doug Keller #7 and heat race winner Ed Noll #15 as the race progressed. As the laps faded, Noll and Schwope would come to the line side by side with Schwope winning by a mere bumper at the flag stand. Schwope would celebrate in McCarthy Auto Group Winners Circle on this night forcing Noll to place second. Third would go to Doug Keller #7 who was in the hunt for the win all race with Turner fourth. Other heat race winner Tim Eaton #211 would have contact with another car and have to work his way back to the front and place fifth.
USRA Stock Cars would again impress with great racing action from start to finish. Dean Wray #77 and 2016 Champion and heat winner Jason Estes #997 would jump to the front and do battle as Brad Whitney #X9 and Jon Boller #20X in the mix as well. All four drivers would duel for the front until Boller would get on two wheels in turn three and four and slip back in the pack. Wray would work the high line with Estes in the middle a Whitney on the low line throughout the entire feature. Wray would eventually pull ahead and on to claim the win. This would be win number eight for Wray on the 2017 racing season at I-35 Speedway. Estes would place second holding Whitney to finish third. Greg Keuhn #6K would work his way through the pack placing fourth with heat winner Boller Jr fifth.
Then it was time for those Fire Breathing, High Flying, and Alcohol Drinking USRA Modifieds to take the stage. In practice and heat races one driver would prove to have the car to beat as Darren Shaw #11 would win both heat and feature on this night of competition. Shaw and other heat race winner and third place finisher Mike Densberger #81 would battle side by side lap after lap with Shaw up top and Densberger low until Shaw would edge ahead and on to victory. Second place finisher Mark Dotson #85D would spin early in the feature and have to race his way back to the front in impressive style. Fourth would go to Chad Clancy #21C with fifth to the Hard Charger of the feature Ryan Schaffer #R21. Schaffer would pick up the Hard Charger money donated by Josh Barnes Enterprises. Other heat race winner was Nic Hanes #17X.
I-35 Speedway would host Christmas in July and collect items to be donated to the homeless and those less fortunate and would what a great response from the fans. To the kids delight Santa Claus would make an appearance and take time for pictures and pass out candy and prizes to the kids. I-35 Speedway continues the “Dirt Trackin at its Best” slogan and each week our great drivers prove this statement to be true.
