Race Recap I-35 Speedway 8-29-20

August 29, 2020 what a great night of racing, the first chill as the night air brought cooler temperatures allowing the racing machines more horsepower.  One hundred and thirty-eight competitors for nine different checkered flags.  A 6-foot 6-inch trophy and bonus money in the Late Models.  A memorial at intermission as we remembered former track prep guru Mike Knight.  Twenty heat races, one B feature and nine A features.  Something for everyone!

 

Track conditions were simply super smooth with the right amount of moisture and right amount of track prep.

 

The Pure Stocks opened the racing with heat race wins for Parker Smith and Brandon Dixon.  This led to the opening laps of the feature with those two drivers and Rieli Yonts battling for the win.  When the checkered flag flew it was Parker Smith with the win.

 

Next onto the track were the Show Me Vintage where heat race winner Larry Waters grabbed the lead.  Waters led the first nine laps before tiring out and allowing hard charging Damon Clevenger who passed Waters on the outside.

 

E Mods brought lots of excitement.  Michael Taylor III and Kameron Hanes won their heat races.  Feature time Taylor grabbed the lead, but the crowd roared when Shaunie Lanning used the low side and passed Taylor.   The high side proved to be the fast side as Taylor passed Lanning for the win.

 

The Sport Compact race had John Willard leading the way with David Miller III on his bumper.  Scott Beagle brought his race machine home in third with Kris Foote in fourth.

The USRA B Mods was a field of highly ranked competitors.  After the heat races the Top 16 in passing points made up the feature.   The B Feature was a race for the Top 8 positions to make the A Main.  Kris Jackson is now two for three in wins at I-35 Speedway passing early leader Lucas Isaacs.   Four in a row winner Shadren Turner had his streak broken but he came home third with Lucas Isaacs brother Ethan coming home fourth.

 

The Midwest Lightning Sprints rolled onto the track after the B Mods.  Stanley Kreisel has made a home in victory lane at I-35 Speedway and he did it again.  Chase Fischer came in second and Brandon Smith finished third.

 

The USRA A Mod feature was the Johnson brothers versus the Hibners as Austin Johnson was on the pole with Lee Hibner to his outside and second row was Houston Johnson with Tyler Hibner outside him.  Oh, and don’t forget point leader Mark Dotson who started in the third row.  At the start it was Austin Johnson grabbing the lead and pulling away.  An early yellow reshuffled the field behind Johnson.  At the restart it was four wide out of two behind Johnson.  As the race settled it became a battle for second between Houston Johnson and Mark Dotson.  At the finish it was Austin Johnson, Houston Johnson, Dustin Hodges and Ed Noll.

 

The USRA Stock Cars with a field of previous I-35 Speedway winners was led to the green by Doug Keller.  Keller led start to finish followed by Brett Heeter and Tony Manley.

The last feature of the night in honor of Mike Knight was the Limited Late Models.  Also, leading start to finish was 13-time winner and points leader Kerry Davis.  Larry Clawson was second and third was Gregg Truelove.  Davis took home the tall trophy and the bonus money.

 

Next up the Midwest Wingless Racing Association Sprint Cars make an appearance at the track which opened their season back in June
