I-35 SPEEDWAY RACE RECAP WEEK 4

Week 4 of the 2020 racing season at I-35 Speedway is now in the history books!  The legend of I-35 Speedway continues to grow!  Nonstop racing action highlighted the return to racing normal, a single night, Saturday night, of racing in this crazy year.  Congratulations to Damon Clevenger, Shaunie Lanning, Brandon Dixon, Kerry Davis, David Miller, Jake Richards, Doug Keller, Mark Dotson, and the unknown driver of the #18 Midwest Lightning Sprint as winners of the feature events.

In the first feature of the night, Clevenger continued his winning ways in the Show Me Vintage class.  In three nights of the Vintage racing, Clevenger has distinguished himself as the driver to beat by winning all three feature events.

The E Mods came out in force.  The three heat winners were Kameron Hanes, Chris Dishong, and Blake Bland.  In the feature Hanes starting from the pole position was the early leader and the man to beat.  By lap he had a challenger, Shaunie Lanning, as she used the low side of the track to grab first place from Hanes.  A late race caution set up a shootout between Lanning and Hanes with Lanning claiming her first victory of the year.

Pure Stocks took to the track and excitement was the name of the game.  Mich Ross and Mike Kincaid shot out to the early lead.  Lurking in third was Dixon.  After a yellow the ensuing restart saw Ross and Kincaid make contact and Dixon took advantage to take the lead and the checkered.

The Late Models were next on the track and were led by heat race passing point leader Kerry Davis to the green.  He quickly took the point.  The battle for second was a four-car battle between last week’s feature winner Houston Johnson, heat race winner Paul Glendenning, 2019 Champion Tommy Cordray, and Darek Wiss.  Davis led green to checkered with Johnson claiming the second position in close sometimes three wide car to car battle.

The Midwest Lightning Sprints followed the Late Models onto the track in their first appearance at I-35 Speedway this season.  These always quick cars put on a great feature race.  Congratulations to Stanley Kriesel who piloted the #18 machine to victory lane.

The Sport Compacts enjoyed a new winner, David Miller III.  The previous three weekends of Friday Night racing for this class were won by John Willard.  The front row of Willard and Jason McCaulley were outfoxed by Miller who started in position number 3.  Grabbing the lead Miller never let up while Willard and McCaulley tried in vain to Miller.

The final three features of the night featured the USRA classes of B Mods, Stock Cars, and A Mods.  What great racing!

After four heat races and a B Feature the field was set for the 24-car feature of USRA B Mods. Bringing the field to the green was the front row of Randy Ainsworth and Dakota Girard.  Instantly this class was racing three and sometime four wide.  This type racing allowed Tyler Cadwallader to shoot to the front of all the competition and become the early leader.  Moving up using the inside track was third row started Jake Richards who zipped around Cadwallader to grab the lead and the win.

USRA Stock Car heat race winners Doug Keller and Tim Eaton brought this super competitive group of cars and drivers to the green flag.  Grabbing the early lead was Keller and at times he appeared on cruise control.  Austin Bouzek from his ninth starting position was making his way to the front.  At the checkered if was Keller with Jeff Dixon and Austin Bouzek close on his tail followed by Gene Stigall and Eaton.

The Mighty A Mods were the last feature of the night.  What a field of competitors! Darrin Shaw and Lee Hibner made up the front row.  At the start it was Shaw then Hibner then Mark Dotson.  Tyler Hibner joined in the group chasing Dotson in and out of lapped traffic.  At the finish is was Dotson, Tyler Hibner, Shaw, Ed Noll, and Chad Lyle as the top five.

Week 4 is in the history books.  It was a night of thrills, spills, and fantastic fun racing.  Full results of all this fun are listed below.
