I-35 Speedway Race Recap 10-3-20

McCarthy Autogroup Show Me Spectacular on October 3, 2020 was another night of 110 plus race cars in competition for the coveted first place! Always exciting racing under the Harvest Moon.

E Mods opened the night of racing and with 25 competitors the full moon was a challenge.  The moon effect invoked a time limit rule which led to the race ending earlier than normal and the checkered flew it was Casey Burnett leading Chris Dishong, Brayden Bennett, and Josh Marshall to the finish line.

Pure Stocks had quite the race going with Brandon Dixon leading the way early followed by Leroy Morrison and Johnnie Price.  A late race moment of getting loose by Dixon allowed several to pass with Morrison taking the win, Price gained his best finish of the year with second, Blaine Yonts was third, and fourth was Calvin Blanks.

The Show Me Vintage sped onto the track and quickly developed into two different groups.  There was racing for the lead, racing for the win, and racing for position.    The top 4 were all within a few inches of each other and at the finish it was Damon Clevenger for the win, second was Scott Vanbuskirk, then Larry Waters and Mickey Fleehart.

Sport Compact had a familiar finish – John Willard, David Miller, Devin Schmidt, and Joseph Mick.  This makes win number 15 for Willard.

Speaking of big-time winners, once again Paul Glendenning won the Late Model heat over Kerry Davis.  However, at feature time it was Davis who took the lead from Glendenning on lap one and appeared headed to victory lane, but on lap 16 Davis left the track.  Running it second at the time was Glendenning who led his way to victory.

Every week at I-35 Speedway there is a race which leaves everyone wanting more.  This week it would be the B Mods who were numerous times three wide for the lead.  For three laps it was point leader Nic Hanes leading the way with challenges from Ethan Isaacs.  Then it was Isaacs leading with challenges from Hanes and Tyler Cadwallader.  Then it was Isaacs leading with Hanes, Cadwallader, and Shadren Turner running three wide for second. At the finish it was Isaacs, Hanes, Turner, then Cadwallader.

The Stock Cars was another race everyone wanted more.  Lap one three wide out of turn 2, High line was Daniel King, middle groove was Jeff Dixon, and the bottom belonged to Brad Whitney.  Lap 6 Dixon shot to the lead and Whitney used the low groove to grab second. Xander Treichel brought his 121-machine home in third and Steve Herrick claimed fourth.

Last feature of the night was the Modifieds.  Ed Noll led the first lap then here came Lee Hibner to take the point.  Houston Johnson was running fourth when he went over the bank in turn 2 and dropped to the back on the restart.  He became the man on the move passing car after car after car and with four laps to go he passed Kyle Covert to take third.  At the checkered it was Hibner with the win, Noll second, Johnson third and Covert fourth.

Next week the long-range forecast calls for weather in the 80s as Indian Summer invades the Midwest.  Racing will return at I-35 Speedway starting at 7:00 P.M.
