Summertime fun at I-35 Speedway

Outstanding fun night of racing for Kaster Appreciation Night at the Races at I-35 Speedway.  The annual thank you to the Kaster family in appreciation of what the family has brought to the local racing community.  We salute Dixie and Family for their commitment and love in promoting this great sport.  It was a night of new winners and 2020 season firsts.

The E Mods were first to take the track.  Jacob Ellison made the trip from Chanute Kansas to challenge the high banks and the always tough competition.  He won the second heat race the first was conquered by Kameron Hanes.  Ellison tamed the field from his front row outside starting position becoming the fifth different winner of the season in this class.

Bobby Ohrenberg grabbed the initial lead of the Pure Stocks.  Blaine Yonts, Brandon Dixon, and Cody Ohrenberg gave chase.  After a yellow, Yonts took advantage and grabbed the lead and the win.  Bobby Ohrenberg was second, Dixon third and Cody Ohrenberg claimed fourth.  Cody and Travis Cavin were heat race winners.

The Midwest Wingless Racing Association brought excitement to the track. These super-fast throwback to an earlier era of racing machines put on quite a show.  The thrills and the spills of this class all occurred on this night. Heat winners were Kory Schudy and Wesley Smith.  Feature time saw Wyatt Burks claim the victory.  He was followed by Tom Curran, Chris Parkinson and Don Droud.

Jason McCaulley has been knocking on Victory’s door all year.  Well on this night he knocked the door down with a strong run.  Stephen Bunton finished second followed by John Willard and David Miller III.

A first in the Midwest Limited Late Models for the 2020 racing season.  Kerry Davis did not win his heat race.  He was second to Darik Wiss in the heat, this earned Wiss the pole for the feature but he did not make the starting lineup allowing Davis to move up to the pole.  Heat race winner Matthew Lance was outside Davis at the start, but Davis grabbed the early lead and led all twenty laps.  Larry Clawson was second, Dean Wray third, and Mike Taylor Jr claimed fourth.

What a stout field of USRA B Mods which relegated some top drivers into the B feature.  Heat winners were Tyler Kidwell, Ethan Isaacs, and Chase Galvan.  Shadren Turner won the B feature.  Feature time saw Isaacs grab the lead and face fifteen laps of constant pressure from Kidwell and Nic Hanes the second and third place cars.  Chase Galvan came back from an early race spin to finish fourth.

The USRA Stock Car heat races were won by Louis Lynch and Doug Keller.  There have been five different winners in this class this year, but one driver has claimed six, now seven of these features, that driver is Doug Keller.  Gary Donaldson made a late race charge for second, Jeff Dixon was third and Lynch took fourth.

Last feature of the night was the USRA A Mods.  Paden Phillips and Mark Dotson won the heat races.  Dotson seized the early lead and survived challenges from Austin Johnson and Tyler Hibner.  Hibner ran the last four laps on Dotson’s bumper claiming second, Johnson was third, and Lee Hibner was fourth.

Next up at I-35 Speedway, the 3rd Annual Asphalt Racers Reunion.  A Night to remember our history of local racing.
