Fuqua, Royalty, Dixon and Mercer’s Fireworks on Track Lead to Victories on Pro Ag Night at the Races

Darren Fuqua rolled into I-35 Speedway the USRA Modified national point leader. With 23 Modifieds on hand for the feature, valuable points were up for grabs. Fuqua seized the opportunity and powered his way from a fourth place starting position into McCarthy Auto Group Winner’s Circle. Mark Dotson did not make it easy for Fuqua and challenged him all race long. Only one caution slowed the race and it came at the right time for Fuqua as he entered lapped traffic the lap before it came out. Lance Town drove to a solid third place finish. Gunner Martin drove through the field for a fourth place finish and Tyler Hibner rounded out the top five.

The USRA Stock Cars witnessed Jeff Dixon run a smooth race on his way to his third win this season. Aaron Sauter finished second, Gene Stigall third and Cletus Murray fourth.

The USRA B-Modifieds, 26 strong, made sure the fireworks started before the end of the night. Four heat races and a B-Feature set the field of 24 cars. Patrick Royalty and Brad Smith started the race long battle for lead, which turned out to be the only safe place on track. On lap 10, two cars got together around third and left nowhere to go for the rest of the field, as almost every car from there on back became collected or effected some way in the 12-plus car pile-up. For a minute turn three looked like a scrapyard but fortunately most of those involved were able to continue with cosmetic damage. Once the race restarted, Royalty held off Smith to pick up the win. Smith finished second. Chase Galvan emerged from the lap ten mess to finish third. Doug Keller charged up to fourth and Tim Powell finished fifth.

Chris Mercer continued his dominance of the E-Modifieds this season as he picked up his eighth win of the season. Mercer found the cushion to his liking tonight and nobody else had anything for him. Steven Makar finished second in his first appearance at I-35 Speedway this season. Leroy Morrison finished third, A.J Sayers fourth, after starting the race at the tail, and Gary Ainsworth fifth.

The Grand National duel between Chad Fuller and Houston Johnson saw round 12 go to Johnson. Johnson used a mid-race pass to take the lead away from Fuller. Fuller finished second and John Hanson third.

The Midwest Lightning Sprints found another winner cruise to victory as Mark Billings jumped out front early and drive away form the field. Spencer Stephens made a late pass the finish second. Bobby Layne, a multiple time feature winner, finished third. Ken Billings finished fourth and Morgan Frewaldt finished fifth.

In the Pure Stock feature Ron Hill and Cody King battled for supremacy. Ron Hill won the battle and his sixth feature of the season. King wound up second. Tyler Cadwallader finished third, Beau Wells fourth and Leonard Loftus fifth.

Cody Cleghorn looked at the rear end of the leader for much of the night in Sport Compacts. In his heat, he had a fast car but never could complete the move to pass Steven Bunton. In the feature, after avoiding several early race incidents, Cleghorn found himself in the same position, this time with David Miller III. Although, Cleghorn change the outcome this time and made the move to take the lead and eventual win in his first appearance at I-35 Speedway this season. David Miller III finished second, Dave Petty Jr. third, Ryan Lewis fourth and Joseph Mick fifth.

Ray Hughes started seventh in the Show-Me Vintage Racers feature but that did not mean he could not get to the front. Although, very few thought that he would do it in just one lap. After that, Hughes cruised to victory. Mickey Fleetheart finished second, Jim Clevenger third, David Baldwin fourth and Steve Hughes fifth.
