The 2018 I-35 Speedway Driver’s Meeting was full of super exciting news for the upcoming season. Schedule updates, tracks working together, new lineup procedures, new points procedures, and new staff are some of the announcements.
The USRA Nationals are returning to I-35 Speedway on October 3-6, 2018. This super fun event will pit the best of the best in USRA racing.
Tracks working together for the betterment of our sport. The E-Mod rules are the same for I-35 and Valley Speedways, and published as such, as the local tracks are working together to standardize the rules for this class. Lakeside Speedway may be the third track to adopt this standardization which will be determined by their drivers at their drivers meeting.
While the Pure Stock rules remain distinct to the local tracks, I-35 and Valley Speedways have agreed to work towards standardization next season. In 2018, I-35 Speedway will allow other track Pure Stock/Factory Stock to compete with their own rules.
Stock Cars will not be sanctioned at I-35 Speedway in 2018. USRA and IMCA Stock Cars are welcome to come compete each week. This will be important as the Gary Davis Memorial Stock Car race on June 16 will be open to various Stock Car classes.
New lineup procedures thanks to a suggestion by Bud Wilson and Doug Keller at the 2017 banquet. This year the Top 8 in heat race passing points will redraw their feature starting position. The Stock Car drivers decided in their class the previous week winner will start at the rear of the field. Additionally, drivers track points will be based on their best finishes for the year less their two lowest scoring races. Those racers attending 85% or more of the races will receive bonus points towards the track championship.
New staff will include Ed “Bubba” Kline heading up the I-35 Speedway Tech Team. He will be assisted by our track consultants and other members of the I-35 Speedway Staff.
